Quick Overview

Quick and fun card game to improve self esteem.  One of a kind asks children to think about the way they make decisions, respond to criticism and peer pressure, what they are willing to do for friendship, how to set and reach goals, and use positive self talk.  The aim is to teach children that certain thoughts, activities and situations tend to make them feel good about themselves, while others don't. Game cards also open up meaningful discussions that therapists can use to teach cognitive and behavioural habits that increase self-esteem.  Great resource to use for a number of different problem types and client types. If preferred, adolescents can read the cards rather than play a game.

Ages 6 to 12

Based on the popular game Crazy Eights, this lively card game delivers fast-paced fun while helping kids become aware of their unique and special qualities. Players draw, match, and shed cards, answering questions as they go. (For example: "Would you choose yourself as a friend? Why or why not?")

Because only half of the cards include questions, the game moves along at a brisk pace. Special cards-Switch Direction, Leap, and Wild Cards-introduce an element of surprise. Players race to get rid of their cards and be first to proclaim "One of a Kind." For added excitement, the rules provide a way for quick-thinking players to jump in at the last minute and keep the game alive.

After each round of play, smiles abound-because kids are not only having fun but also feeling better about themselves. For 2 to 4 players.

Additional Information

Professionals Comments Hi Angelique, The games are going well thanks and have added another fun dimension into the work I am doing with young people. I am finding that the ‘one of a kind’ game is particularly popular with my clients many of whom ask to play it on multiple occasions. Cheers, Tracey Jane Psychologist Connected Self, Adelaide
